sea coast 1,650 km long encloses Gujarat from three sides like a girdle. The state is renowned for its beaches, its holy temple towns and its historic capitals with their architectural wealth. As much a part of the state are its wildlife sanctuaries, its hill resorts, its natural grandeur and religious and pilgrim centres. The state is rich with its wealth of sculpture, of handicrafts, of arts. And yet, Gujarat is a modern state too, among the most technologically advanced. In places of tourist and business interest, holiday homes help make the state a pleasure to travel in.
The tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited , set up in 1975, has undertaken to provide comprehensive travel services to visitors to the state. These include accommodation, conducted tours and ground transport with a wide range of choice to meet diverse needs. Over the years, the number of tourists to Gujarat have increased substantially, largely due to the development in infrastructure undertaken by the Corporation.
In fact, the efforts in promoting infrastructure in keeping with the spirit of the state, its people and its natural environment have won the Corporation such prestigious awards as the Somnath Chib Memorial Award from the Pacific Asia Travel Association for outstanding tourism promotion, and the first place in the National Tourism Fair '89. The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited has a network of 19 accommodation units under the brandname Toran. Some of these have become attractive destinations in themselves. Some of these are at Ahmedpur Mandvi, Chorwad and Saputara.
