“Sere” is the term given to the many steps that are involved in the plant succession. Based on the nature of the habitat, the primary succession in plants is divided into two different groups:

1. Hydrach – where the primary plant succession is in water. The different steps are collectively called as Hydrosere.
2. Xerach – Where the primary plant succession starts in extremely dry places like deserts. The different steps are collectively called as xerosere.
