Declarative or Assertive sentence:

➲ A sentence that makes a statement or assertion or declares something is called a declarative or Assertive sentence;

Eg:

  • A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
  • Borrowed garments never fit well.

The above question is from Transformation of Sentences part of grammar. To transform sentence is to change it from one grammatical form to another without altering its sense or meaning.

Some rules while changing the sentence into Assertive:

➵ When the sentence in negative ( interrogative ), it is change into Affirmative ( assertive ).

➵ When the sentence in positive/Affirmative ( interrogative ), it is change into negative ( assertive ).

➵ Who is replaced by everybody/nobody according to the sentence and never replaced by ever, vice versa.

➵ While changing the exclamatory sentence into assertive without altering its meaning;

  • Firstly, we should remove the exclamation mark in assertive sentences.
  • Secondly, exclamatory sentences show some strong feelings, so while writing it into assertive form we will replace it with words, like very, truly, great, etc...
