It was a red letter day in the history of India when the country got her freedom on August 15, 1947. It took hundreds of years for us to break shackles of slavery. People of the country celebrate this festival every year with great pomp and show. The main Programme is celebrated at the Red Fort in New Delhi. Besides, this festival is also celebrated in every city and town, in school, college and university.
Our school also celebrates this festival every year. For this year, we had made all the preparations. In the morning NCC cadets of our school marched out in a procession through the main streets of the town with a band playing the National Song ( Vande Matram ).

DAV Model School, IIT-Kharagpur remembered the nation’s freedom fighters on I-Day
DAV Model School, IIT Kharagpur celebrated the nation’s 71st Independence Day and remembered with gratitude the sacrifice of the freedom fighter.
The celebration began in the school premises with the unfurling of the National flag followed by a speech with patriotic zeal and fervour by the Principal Mr. N.K.Gautam.
On the occasion, two students were awarded for their excellent performance in Hindi Essay. This was followed by a pledge to make India clean and rid the country of the problems of poverty, corruption, terrorism and casteism in the next 5 years. A few students from the school presented a patriotic drama in front of Bidhan Chawk, IIT Kharagpur and the programme concluded with the National Song, Vande Mataram, evoking the feeling of patriotism among all present.
