The Price of Inaction
It was Sunday. I was solving mathematical tricks. Suddenly , I heard some noise from street and found that it was coming from behind an unfinished building. It sounded like someone pleading for help. I was tempted to sit at home and finish my math but my curiosity got the better of me. Also, who likes math anyway? I walked down the street towards where the noise was coming from. It was definitely a cry of help.
I crept to the back of the building where I couldn't be seen. I saw a boy from my class. His name was "insert name". Two older boys from three classes up were beating him up. His glasses fell to the floor. One boy turned and smashed them under his feet. "Insert name" was crying out for help. I remember, he had never really been the strong kind. He always sat at the back of the class reading books. The smart quiet kid. I wanted to go over there and help him.
The boys continued to thrash him. "I want my work by tomorrow you hear me". "Insert name" started to tremble. "I told you I can't, I need two more days" They jumped on him and proceeded to do even more damage to his body. Blood was streaming out. I had had enough. I definitely couldn't take on two bullies. I ran back home. All through the night I couldn't sleep. I kept on seeing blood in my dreams.
The next morning, I ran into class. For some reason, I had been late. i walked in and took my seat in a quiet class. "insert name's" seat was empty. Our principal walked in with a grave face. "It is with great sadness that i come to inform you that, your classmate "insert name" died this morning. He was found behind an unfinished building, late last night curled up in a ball. he was rushed to the hospital and died two minutes later. The whole class hung their heads in sadness. I started to cry. i could have done something but I didn't. Now "insert name" is dead because of my inaction.
Moral: If you see bullying happening, do your best to stop it. You never know who's life you might be saving.
