The Story of a River and a Mountain Who Wanted to Help

A mountain stooped to meet a river. The river, once mighty, now meandered through the sand and dreamt of the sea. The mountain spoke to her with the voice of the clouds — “Let me help you roar again.”
It rained for weeks then, till the last cloud was gone. The river swelled. But along with the clouds, the mountain lost his voice.
Months passed by. Now the summer scorched. The hungry sand ate up the dwindling river.
The river didn’t die though. Silently, she flowed beneath the sand, beneath the rocky mounds, in and out of caves where bats slept all day. She gave birth to a million ferns that thrived in the dark.
The mountain didn’t know. Desperate to save his river, he broke his crown and sent the largest glacier down. The glacier formed an angry stream. It cut right through the mountain’s heart and joined the river.
Nourished forever, the river flourished forever. She flooded the caves, the valleys, the plains, and met the faraway sea. Mangrove forests soon lined her banks. But deep inside, she didn’t know herself any longer.
The mountain, broken and bruised, stared at the river often. He never knew what went amiss.
