Why was the event historic? Why did Bismillah Khan refused to start a Shehnai School in the USA? Bismillah khan played shehnai on redfort in 15 august 1947. it was historical event because india got independence that day. Bismillah khan refused to start shehnai school in U.S.A because he loved his country especially benaras too much . when a American student said to bismillah khan that sir please come to my country and open shehnai school then he refused he said I can not leave benaras then boy say I will make all temple in U.S.A as in benaras then bismillah khan says can you take my river ganga to there.
