Pythagorean theorem = a² + b² = c²

c = √(a² + b²)

So,

X = √(5² + 3²)

X = √(25+9)

X = √36

X = 6

Now find the value of "Y"

Y = √(4² + 3²)

Y = √(16 + 9)

Y = √25

Y = 5

X + Y = 6 + 5 = 11 (Mala is 11 K.m away from Ram)
