Given:

Number of rows in first flower bed = 18

Number of rows in second flower bed = 24

To find:

The least number of plants in each flower bed.

Solution:

Since Mallika has 18 rows of plants in one flower bed and 24 in the other.

To find least number of flower in both flower beds we need to find the LCM of 18 and 24.

18 = 2*3*3

24 = 2*2*2*3

So taking the LCM of 18  and 24 will be 2*2*2*3*3, hence we would get 72.

Therefore,  Least number of flower in both flower beds should be 72.

Solution:

To find least number of flower in both flower beds we need to find the LCM of 18 and 24

18 = 2 × 3 × 3

24 = 2 × 2 × 2  × 3

LCM ( 18  and 24 ) = 2 × 2 × 2 ×  3 × 3 =  72

=> Least number of flower in both flower beds should be 72

18 x 4 = 72    ( 4 flowers in each row)

24 x 3 = 72   ( 3 flowers in each row)
