Fructose doesn't exist in the body it immediately breaks down to simpler substances while it is necessary for maltose, sucrose etc...

odd one out among the given sugars is fructose.

  • The other sugars except fructose are dimers formed of 2 sugar units i.e. disaccharides.
  • Fructose is the only monosaccharide among the given sugars. (1/ single unit of sugar)
  • Maltose consists of 2 units of alpha-D-Glucose.
  • Lactose consists of a beta galactose and a beta-D-glucose attached by a beta(1→4) glycosidic bond.
  • Sucrose is the only non-reducing sugar as the functional anomeric carbon is involved in the glycosidic bond formation and is not free.
  • Sucrose consists of glucose and fructose where C₁ of glucose is attached to C₂ of fructose by an ether bond called the "Glycosidic linkage".
  • Fructose is also called fruit sugar as it is mostly found in fruits.
