Adenohypophysis

The main functions of Prolactin :

1. It stimulates synthesis of milk in the breasts during lactation period after child birth

2. It is also partly responsible for growth of glandular epithelium of breast.

3. Higher levels of Prolactin after child birth inhibits estrogen and progesterone such that a physiological contraception I observed for 6 months after delivery of a child.

4. Also known as " Milk synthesising hormone".
