Management is a series of continuous interrelated functions which may briefly be described as follows :  

Planning :

In this type an organisation plans everything before action. This step helps in determining objective, forecasting and formulation of policies.

Organising :

Once the plans are formulated in an organisation, the next step is to decide on the activities to be performed and resources required to implements the plan. It  includes preparing organisational structure and creating authority and responsibility relationship throughout the organisation.

Staffing :

In this step right person is placed at the right job according to the need of the work force which is required to achieve the organisational goals. This function is performed by human resources department.

 

Directing :

The organisation does not start working till the manager gives direction, which includes guiding, supervising, leading, motivating, communicating and influencing the behaviour of subordinates so that they can give best of the abilities to the organisations.  

 

Controlling :

It is a function that monitors the performance towards attainment of organisational goals. For this purpose, actual performance is compared with the predetermined standards if deviations are found, corrective actions are taken so that heavy losses can be avoided.
