Informal groups are those groups that are created out of personal interaction, communication, friendship, common interest of the members etc. They are created naturally. The members of these groups have strong bond and they support each other which influences the job satisfaction and productivity. Management has no role in creating these groups.
Management creates formal groups with proper authority and responsibility structure. It is generally permanent that consist of superiors and subordinates with their designated roles.
Both formal and informal groups have their own advantages and disadvantages. If informal groups have strong cohesiveness they can achieve best results in sync with organizational goals.
