Answer:

Cost of pencil is Rs.35

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Let amount of money Manasvi has= Rs. x

Amount of money spends on pen =Rs.87.50

Amount of money remained which she spends on a pencil = 1/3 of (x - 87.50)

                                                                                                   =(x -87.50) /3

Amount of money remained after spending on pen and pencil =Total money - (money she spends on pen +pencil)

                                                =x - {87.50 +(x -87.50) / 3}

                                                = x - {87.50 × 3 +x - 87.50} /3

                                                = x - {262.5 + x -87.50} / 3

                                                =(3x -175 - x ) /3

                                                =(2x-175) /3

According to the question,

Amount of money she has left =I/4 of total money

                                                   =x / 4

So,

x /4 =(2x-175) /3

By doing cross multiplication,

3x= 4 (2x-175)

3x= 8x - 4 × 175

8x-3x =700

5x = 700

x = 700 /5

x =140

∴ Cost of pencil = (2x-175 ) /3

                            = ( 2 ×140 -175 ) /3

                            =105 /3

                            =35
