The name 'Mandrem' has its roots in the Arabic word 'Mudras' (transl. teacher). Under the Arabs' rule, Mandrem hosted a horse market in a place called Alkhand, with horses imported from Saudi Arabia. The village was known for its exotic palm trees, toddy tapping, cashew feni and fishing.
