Mangroves are plants that grow well in brackish and waterlogged soil. Due to the waterlogged conditions the roots are unable to get sufficient oxygen for normal working and thus they are modified into pneumatophores which are upright extensions of roots which show negative geotropism and possess pores called pneumatothodes for gaseous exchange.
