Answer

  • The cp of two watches is Rs.12000
  • Cost price is greater than the selling price so it's loss
  • Gain/ loss percent on the whole transaction is 2.25%

Given :

  • Manish sells two watches for Rs.5865 each, Gaining 15% on the one and losing 15% on the other

To find :

  • The CP of the two watches
  • Total gain/loss
  • Gain/loss percent on the whole transaction

Solution :

Given

  • Manish sells two watches for Rs.5865 each

Now , we need to find the cost price of one watch at Gain 15%

We know that,

  • CP = (SP × 100) / (100 + gain)

Where ,

  • CP is cost price
  • SP is selling price

⇢ CP = (SP × 100) / (100 + gain)

⇢ (5865 × 100) / (100 + 15)

⇢ 586500 / 115

⇢ Rs.5100

The Cost price of one watch at Gain 15 % is Rs.5100

Now , we need to find the cost price of other watch at loss of 15%

We know that,

  • CP = (SP × 100) / (100 - loss)

⇢ CP = (SP × 100) / (100 - loss)

⇢ (5865 × 100) / (100 - 15)

⇢ 586500 / 85

⇢ Rs.6900

The cost price of other watch at loss of 15% is Rs.6900

Now , we need to find the cost price of two watches :

⇢ Cost price of two watches = (cost price of one watches + cost price of other watches

⇢ Cost price of two watches = (Rs.5100 + Rs.6900) = Rs.12,000

Cost price of two watches is Rs.12,000.

Now, we need to find the selling price of two watches :

⇢ Selling price of two watches = (Rs.5865 + Rs.5865) = Rs.11730

Selling price of two watches is Rs.11730

So, Cost price is greater than selling price then it's loss .

Now , To find the Loss :

We know that,

  • Loss = CP - SP

Where

  • CP is cost price
  • SP is selling price

⇢ Loss = CP - SP

⇢ Loss = (Rs. 12000 - Rs. 11730)

⇢ Loss = Rs.270

Now , To find the Loss percent :

We know that,

  • Loss percent = (loss × 100) / CP %

⇢ Loss percent = (270 × 100) / 12000 %

⇢ Loss percent = 27000 / 12000%

⇢ Loss percent = 2.25 %

Hence , Gain/ loss percent on the whole transaction is 2.25%.
