Manish travels a certain distance by car at the rate of 12 km/h and walks back at the rate of 3 km/h. The whole journey took 5 hours. What is the distance he covered on the car? * 1 point

Let s be distance travelled by Manish one-way.

Time taken by Manish to reach destination -

t1 = s/v1

t1 = s/12

Time taken by Manish to return to origin -

t2 = s/v2

t2 = s/3

Total time taken for journey is -

t = t1 + t2

5 = s/12 + s/3

5 = 5s/12

s = 12 km

Therefore, total distance covered by car is 2s = 2×12 = 24 km.
