 Now, putting eq. (i) in eq, ( iii ).
x - 6 = 4y - 24
⇒ 3 + y = 4y - 24
⇒ 4y - y = 3 + 24
⇒ 3y = 27
⇒ y = 9.

Hence, x = 3 + y
                 = 3 + 9 = 12.

x = 12 ; y = 9.
 
 Therefore, Manju's present age is  12 years and Sunita's present age is 9 years.
