Ans. Mother gifted Manjula a set of artist’s water colour, father gave her a book on painting - Painting, Step by Step - while her brother gifted her three water-colour brushes of artist’s quality.

4. Why did Manjula tear her painting into pieces?

Ans. Manjula overheard her father saying that he was unable to support her hobby of painting due to money-constraint. He suggested that she should rather take up cooking or stitching. This anguished Manjula so much that tore her painting into pieces.
