As we know that x is Mona's age, then Mona's age is 20 years.
Then Manu's age is 20+2= 22 years.........

So, the age of Manu be x + 2 years

According to Question,

Given : Sum of ages = 42 years

x + (x + 2) = 42

⇒ 2x + 2 = 42      [By transposition]

⇒ 2x = 42 - 2

⇒ 2x = 40            [By transposition]

⇒ x = 40 / 2

⇒ x = 20

Required ages -

Mona = x = 20 years

Manu = x + 2 = 20 + 2 = 22 years

Hence, the age is Mona is 20 years and Manu is 22 years
