Answer:the sex of a child is decided as the zygote is formed by the fusion of sperm and ova

  • females possess XX sex chromosome while the males possess XY sex chromosome
  • as a result, males produce 2 types of sperms - 50% containing X chromosome and 50% Y chromosome
  • now, if the sperm containing X chromosome fertilizes an ova then the offspring formed will be female
  • and if the sperm containing Y chromosome fertilizes an ova then the offspring formed will be a male
  • scientifically, sex of a child is determined by father and not by mother
