The problematic soils and their management is a key issue in Konkan region of Maharashtra. Most of the soils of Konkan region are Alfisols, Ultisols, Oxisols, Entisols and Inceptisols, respectively. The high average annual rainfall of Konkan region is 3500 mm and almost hilly tract, steep slopping which causes erosion, leaching losses, sedimentation, compaction, acidification and salinization creates more problems in soil. The farmers are facing continuous problems of soils in some salt affected area nearby Mumbai i.e. Panvel Salt affected belt. We recommended on-site and off-site nutrient management practices for neutralizing these types of soil. Most of the areas of Konkan region are under problematic soils and its management and reclamation is an important challenge for future development of soil.
