Several places in Rajasthan get a scarce amount of rainfall, yet most of the villages do not face scarcity of water. Here's why:

  • Rajasthan receives very little amount of rainfall most of the time.
  • This is due to the Indian monsoon from the Bay of Bengal losing most of its moisture content by the time it hits Rajasthan.
  • The Indian monsoon that develops on the Arabian Sea does not reach Rajasthan.
  • Therefore, technically Rajasthan should face a scarcity of water. But this is not true.
  • People living in the villages of Rajasthan have adopted several methods to conserve water.
  • They conserve rainwater by developing different types of reservoirs like Bandhi and Jhalara.
  • The people practice rainwater harvesting by building underground cylindrical pits called Taanka.
  • They harvest the floodwater also by Ahars.
  • Johads is one of the oldest methods practiced in Rajasthan to replenish and store groundwater. It helps in groundwater harvesting.

Hence, the answer to the given question has been stated above.
