Given : Map is drawn using a scale of 1 cm to 8 km.

To Find :  the R.F. of the map

Find in cm, the distance on the map between two places which are 72 km apart

Find in cm², the area on the map of a forest which has an area of 496 km²2

Solution:

RF  = Representative Factor

RF = Dimension of Drawing / Dimension of Object

     = 1 cm / 8 km

1km  = 1000 m

1 m = 100 cm

1 km = 100000 cm

8 km = 800000 cm

= 1 cm /800000 cm

RF  = 1 : 800000

8km = 1 cm

=> 72 km = 9 cm

the distance on the map between two places which are 72 km apart is 9 cm

1 cm  =  8 km

1 cm² = 64 km²

64 km² = 1 cm²

=> 496 km²  = 496/64  = 7.75 cm²

the area on the map of a forest which has an area of 496 km² is 7.75 cm²
