GIVEN :

Marcus and Jeremy both evaluated the expression -52+3. Marcus said the answer was -22. Jeremy said the answer was 28.

TO FIND :

The error in the Marcus and Jeremy's work

SOLUTION :

Given that Marcus and Jeremy both evaluated the expression

-52+3.

Marcus said the answer was -22.

Jeremy said the answer was 28

Since -52 + 3

=-49 .

Marcus work is

[tex] -5^2 + 3[/tex]

=-25 + 3

= -22

Next Jeremy work is

(-5)^2 + 3

=25+3

= 28

Both Marcus and Jeremy's evaluated answer were wrong.

Both are wrong.

∴ the correct evaluated answer is -49.
