Maria is using a coordinate plane with the axes labeled only with integers. She says that the point (−0.5, 2) cannot be plotted because halves are not numbered on the x-axis. Write a note to Maria about her misunderstanding and explain how to plot the point.

Please help.

Answer:

Maria you have made a mistake. You have misunderstood the points . You can take the help of the attachment.

To plot any terminating Decimal on the coordinate plane, you have to use property of Rational Numbers ,which is, you can find infinite number of terminating Decimal between two terminating Decimal.

→Mark -0.5 between 0 and -1 on the X axis.Similarly, mark integer 2 on the Y axis.Draw a line parallel to Y axis ,passing from (-0.5,0) and line parallel to X axis passing through (0,2).The intersection of these two lines will be required point (-0.5,2).

Sample Answer:  You can plot points that contain decimal numbers on a coordinate plane even if only integers are labeled on the axes. To plot (−0.5, 2), start at the origin and move left 0.5 units. This will be halfway between −1 and 0. Then move up 2 units and plot a point.
