Answer:

Let x be the no. of books David has,

and 2x be the no. of books Marie has.

So,

no.of books Marie has+no.of books David has=18

2x+x=18

3x=18

x=18 divided by 3

x=6

therefore,

no of books marie have=2x

=2 multiply into 6

=12 books

no. of books david have=x

=6books

CHECK:12+6=18(correct)

THE EQUATION THAT CAN BE USED IS 2x + x=18
