What do we mean by non-collinear points?
If the given number of points do not lie on the same straight line, we call them as non-collinear points.

  • There can be infinitely many ways in which the four points can be marked such that no three are collinear.
  • We will take up the easiest example of 4 points i.e. A Square.
  • Here, the vertices of the square will be X, Y, Z, W.
  • All the given points are such that none of them are collinear.
  • Now, the line segments that can be drawn from all these 4 vertices taking a pair i.e. 2 points at a time are -
  1. XY
  2. YZ
  3. ZW
  4. WX
  5. XZ    (diagonal 1)
  6. WY    (diagonal 2)

Therefore, the total number of line segments that can be drawn from 4 non-collinear points are 6.
