The amount of paint that left with Mark = 25/28

Given:

Mark wants to paint a mural.

Amount of yellow paint he had =  1 1/7 gallons

Amount of green paint he had =  1 1/8 gallons

Amount of blue paint he had =  7/8 gallons

Mark plans to use 3/4 gallons of each paint color

To find:

How many gallons of paint will he have left after painting the mural?

Solution:

Complete question:

Mark wants to paint a mural. He has 1 1/7 gallons of yellow paint, 1 1/8 gallons of green paint, and 7/8 gallons of blue paint. Mark plans to use 3/4 gallons of each paint color. How many gallons of paint will he have left after painting the mural? Enter your answer as a simplified fraction.

Given

Amount of yellow paint he had =  1 1/7 = 8/7 gallons

After using 3/4 of the paint,

Remaining paint = \frac{8}{7} - \frac{3}{4}

= \frac{32 - 21}{28} = \frac{11}{28}

Amount of green paint he had =  1 1/8 = 9/8 gallons

After using 3/4 of the paint

Remaining paint = \frac{9}{8} - \frac{3}{4}

= \frac{9 - 6}{8}  = \frac{3}{8}

Amount of blue paint he had = 7/8 gallons

After using 3/4 of the paint

Remaining paint = \frac{7}{8} - \frac{3}{4}  = \frac{7 - 6 }{8} = \frac{1}{8}

By the above calculations

The amount of paint that is left with Mark = \frac{11}{28} +\frac{3}{8} + \frac{1}{8}

= \frac{11}{28} +\frac{4}{8}

= \frac{11}{28} +\frac{1}{2}

= \frac{11 + 14}{28}  = \frac{25}{28}

Therefore,

The amount of paint that left with Mark = 25/28
