Answer:

your question is not clear in the terms whether the discount was given together (10% + 20% = 30%) or after the marked price was discounted by 10% then the price which came out as the selling price was again discounted by 20%.

anyways I will tell by both ways

situation one where the discount was added:

discount one = 10%

discount to = 20%

total discount = (10% + 20%) = 30%

selling price = marked price - (total discount × marked price)

= 1000 - (30% × 1000)

= 1000 - (30 × 1000)

100

= 1000 - 300

= 700

therefore, selling price of the book is ₹ 700.

situation two where the marked price is discounted by 10% and then the selling price which is obtained is again discounted by 20%:

discount one = 10%

obtained selling price = marked price - (discount one × marked price)

= 1000 - ( 10% × 1000)

= 1000 - ( 10 × 1000 )

100

= 1000 - 100

= 900

therefore, obtained selling price is ₹ 900

discount two = 20%

final selling price = obtained selling price - ( discount two ×

obtained selling price)

= 900 - ( 20% × 900 )

= 900 - ( 20 × 900)

100

= 900 - 180

= 720

therefore, the final selling price is ₹ 780

this was my explanation.please see to it according to your question which one is right. I have done it either ways it was possible as the question wasn't understood clearly to me.
