In the meter bridge experimental set
up, shown in the figure, the null point
'D' is obtained at a distance of 40 cm
from end A of the meter bridge wire. If
a resistance of 10 12 is connected in
series with Ri, null point is obtained
at AD = 60 cm. Calculate the values
of R1 and R2.

\frac{R_{1} }{R_{2} }  = \frac{40}{60}  = \frac{2}{3}

\frac{R_{1}+ 10 }{R_{2} }  = \frac{60}{40}  = \frac{3}{2}

\frac{R_{1} }{R_{2} }  + \frac{10}{R_{2} } = \frac{3}{2}

\frac{2}{3}  + \frac{10}{R_{2} }  = \frac{3}{2}

R_{2} = 12Ω

substituting for R2 and finding the value of R1

R_{1}  = 8Ω
