Given :  Marks obtained by 50 students from 100 are as follows

Marks  Number of student

0-34            8

35-50          9

51-70          14

71-90           11

91-100          8

To Find  : the probability that a student get marks :

(i) below 34

(ii) between 71-90

(iii) more than 70

(iv) less than or equal to 50

(v) above 90.

Solution

Marks  Number of student           CF

0-34            8                                  8

35-50          9                                17

51-70          14                                31

71-90           11                                42

91-100          8                               50

Total Students = 50

below 34  marks = 8 students

the probability that a student get marks  below 34  = 8/50  = 0.16

(ii) between 71-90  are  11 students

the probability that a student get marks  between 71-90  = 11/50  = 0.22

(iii) more than 70

71-90   +  91-100

 11 + 8  = 19   students

the probability that a student get marks more than 70  = 19/50  = 0.38

(iv) less than or equal to 50

0-34 a nd 34 - 50

8 + 9 = 17  students

the probability that a student get marks  less than or equal to 50   = 17/50  = 0.34

(v) above 90.   = 8 students

the probability that a student get marks above 90  = 8/50  = 0.16
