Mary chooses a number and does the following. First, she multiplies it by 2, and then she adds 16. The result is again multiplied by 2 and 16 is added, and so on by the same pattern. Which (natural one digit) number did she choose if the result was 68 at some time?

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number she chooses is x

Step1 :

By first condition :

2x+16 -------  Eq (1)

By 2nd condition.

2(2x+16) +16

4x +32 +16

4x +48 ---------Eq (2)

By given condition at some point the sum of pattern should by 68 .

So using Eq(2)

4x +48=68

4x=68-48

x=20/4

x=5

So the natural one digit number will be 5 .

Hope it answer yours Qs.
