the number of ten shillings coins = 3 coins

Step-by-step explanation:

Total coins = 21

Let number of ten shilling coin = x

(There are twice as many five shilling coins as there are ten shilling coins)

Hence number of five shilling coin = 2x

number of one shilling coin = y

Equation in terms of number of coins

2x + x + y = 21

3x + y = 21 ........(1)

Equation in terms of value of coins

5 (2x) + 10 (x) + 1 (y) = 72

20 x + y = 72 ....... (2)

Solve equation (1) and (2)

x = 3

y = 12

the number of ten shillings coins = 3 coins
