Mary Kom is an Indian boxer, She was born in Churachandpur, Manipur and belongs to the Kom tribe of North East India. She was interested in athletics since childhood but later started boxing after watching it in 2000.
She has won World Boxing championship six times and the only Indian boxer to qualify for the 2012 Olympics and won bronze medal in flyweight category. She is ranked No 1. AIBA world women's ranking. She was nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha on 25th April 2016.
