Mary needs snacks for all of the students going on the field trip. She bought 9 boxes of granola bars containing a total
of 88 bars. She wanted variety, so she purchased three different flavours. The almond chunky granola bars were packed
8 to a box, the chewy chocolate chip bars came 10 to a box, and the raisin nut package containing 12 per box. She
bought the most boxes of almond chunky but had the most raisin nut bars. How many boxes of each flavour did she
buy?

Given : She bought 9 boxes of granola bars containing a total of 88 bars.

she purchased three different flavours.

The almond chunky granola bars were packed 8 to a box,

the chewy chocolate chip bars came 10 to a box, and

the raisin nut package containing 12 per box.

She bought the most boxes of almond chunky but had the most raisin nut bars.

To Find :  How many boxes of each flavour did she buy?

Solution:

9 boxes of granola bars containing a total  of 88 bars

almond chunky granola bars were packed 8 to a box,   = 8A

chewy chocolate chip bars came 10 to a box,  = 10C

raisin nut package containing 12 per box.  = 12R

    A + C + R  =  9

8A + 10C + 12R  = 88

=> 4A + 5C  + 6R  = 44

A > C , R   => 3A  >   9  =>   A  ≥ 4

12R  > 10C ,  8A

12R  > 88/3   =>  R  ≥  3

A > R    A = 5 then  8A 40 Hence R must be  4 so that 12R > 40

Hence  A = 4     => 8A = 32

            R = 3  => 12R  = 36

            C = 2  => 10C  = 20

So she bought :

4 Boxes on almond chunky granola bars

3 Boxes of   raisin nut package

2 Boxes of  chewy chocolate chip bars
