Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the amount Peter picked. Then Mary and Lucy picked 2x and x+2, respectively. So

x+2x+x+2=26

4x=24

x=6

Therefore, Peter, Mary, and Lucy picked 6, 12, and 8 kg, respectively.

Answer:

Mary = M

Peter = P

Lucy = L

The number that Mary picks (M) is twice that much as Peter (P), so we can say that M=2P

Now, Lucy picked two more than Peter, so we can say that L = P +2

All together they picked 26, which would also be M +P + L

So 26 = (2P) + (P) + (P+2)

26 = 2P + P + P + 2

26 = 4P +2

Minus 2 from both sides;

24 = 4P

Divide both sides by 4, to find how many Peter picked.

6 = P, so we can say, that Peter picked 6.

How many did the others pick? Lets go back to the top, so Mary picked twice as many, and Lucy picked two more.

Therefore, Mary picked 6 x 2 = 12,

and Lucy picked 6+2 = 8.

Mary picked 12

Peter picked 6

Lucy picked 8

If we double check this answer, 12+6+8 = 26, so it is correct.
