Answer:

Height of the water in aquarium is 12.5 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

  • given that Mary poured 40,000cm^{3} of water into an aquarium and it is in rectangular shape, from this we can conclude that 40,000cm^{3} is volume of water which is in rectangular shape
  • length and width of aquarium are 40 cm and 80 cm respectively here water occupies the area of the aquarium so 40 cm and 80 cm are be the length and width of water

     from above, volume of water  = 40,000 cm^{3}

                         length of water l = 40 cm

                          width of water w = 80 cm

                         height of water h =  ?  ( we need to find out it )

      volume of water = length × width × height

                           40,000 = 40 × 80 × h

                            40,000= 3200 × h

                                     h = \frac{40000}{3200}

                                     h = \frac{400}{32}

                                      h = 12.5 cm
