let present age of Mary and her daughter be x and y respectively.
seven years ago so their age will be x-7 and y-7 respectively.
x-7 =7(y-7)
so 7y-x =42........(i)
three years from now, their age would be x+3 and y+3 respectively.
so, x+3=3(y+3)
so, x-3y= 6….....(ii)
solving equation (i) and (ii) we get
x= 42 years
y= 12 years
