Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

let mary's age be x and her daughter's age be y

therefore according to question

seven years ago, their ages were x-7 and y-7 respectively, and mary says

(x-7) = 7 x (y-7)

x-7 = 7y - 49

x = 7y - 42 ------ 1

now mary says that her age 7 years ago was three times the age of her daughter after seven years from present

(x-7) = 3 x (y+7)

x-7 = 3y+21

x = 3y + 28 ----------2

for equation 1 and 2, as the LHS is same and equal, equating RHS we get

3y+28 = 7y-42

70 = 4y

y = 17.5

and then putting this value in equation 1 we get

x = 7(17.5) - 42

x  = 80.5
