Mary was sitting on the ground flying kite. She had 13 yards of line let out to fly her kite, and was 14 feet in front of her? How high up was the kite? Draw and label a picture to model the scenario and show all of your work. (1 yard = 3 feet)

Let the length of second string be x m

In ΔABC

sin 30∘=  \binom{ac}{ab}

 \binom{1}{2}  =  \binom{ac}{100}  =  ac = 50m

In ΔAEF

sin 45 =  \binom{af}{ae}

 \binom{1}{2}  =      \binom{ac}  {fc}  = x

[∵ AC = 50 m, FC = ED = 10 m]

 \binom{1}{2}  =  \binom{40}{x}

x= 40   \sqrt[40]{2} m

∴ the length of string that the second boy must have so that the two kites meet

 = 40 \sqrt[40]{2}
