Atomic number=no. of protons
here mass number= no. of protons+ no. of neutrons
So, In first case
mass number of magnesium is 24 and atomic number is 12 which means no. of protons=12
so no. of neutrons will also be 12.
12( no. of protons)+12(no. of neutrons)=24
In the second case
the same theory as above
no. of protons=12
mass no. =26
no. of neutrons=14
As we know the nucleus of an atom contains proton and neutrons.
So,
Case 1 : 12 protons and 12 neutons
Case 2: 12 protons and 14 neutrons
