Mass of an object is 12 kg.
Calculate
(i) its weight on the earth.
(ii) its weight on the moon.

solution: mass of object (m) = 12kg

value of g on earth= 9.8m/s²

weight (w)= mg= 12×9.8=117.6N

value of g on moon=1.63m/s²

weight (w) =12×1.63=19.56N

value of g on moon is 1/6 of g on earth.

weight (w)= mg= 12 × 10 = 120N

value of g on moon = 1/6 th of that on earth

weight (w) on moon will be: = 12 × 10 × 1/6 = 20N

value of g on moon is 1/6 of g on earth.
