It is given that the mass of an object is 12 kg.

We have to find the weight of object on the earth and the moon.

  • mass : it is fundamental quantity which doesn't depend upon the position of it.
  • weight : it is nothing but force exerted on particle by a celestial body ( earth , moon etc..). it is the product of mass and acceleration due to gravity of celestial body. hence, it can't be changed changing the place of particle.

we know, acceleration due to gravity on the surface of the earth = 6 × acceleration due to gravity on the surface of the moon.

acceleration due to gravity of earth = g = 10 m/s²

acceleration due to gravity of moon , g' = g/6 = 10/6 m/s²

now the weight of object on the surface of the earth = mg = 12 kg × 10 m/s² = 120 N

the weight of object on the surface of the moon = mg' = 12 kg × 10/6 m/s² = 20 N
