1. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that
follow: (10)
The burning of fuels and cutting of
troes in large quantities has resulted
in gradual increase in carbon dioxide
in the air. If carbon dioxide goes on
increasing, in next fifty years, rise in
air temperature would melt polar ice-
caps and sen level would rise, causing
floods in coastal regions. Burning of
coal and oil also adds sulphur dioxide
gas to the atmosphere. This causes

Air pollution affects plants and animals as well Water pollution takes place when
wastes from factories are let into rivers. The most widespread source of water
pollution is disposal of sewage Polluted water affects water animals and waret
plants.
Ocean waters are polluted by oil spills from tankers. The sewage from cities
located along the coasts are dumped into the sea.
