TYPES OF OVULES IN ANGIOSPERMS -

Ovules are divided into six types based on the relative position of the parts of the ovule -

  • Campylotropous - Curved ovules such that microphyle opening chalaza are not aligned with each other.
  • Amphitropous - Ovule is curved or bent such as the ovule looks like a horseshoe. Example - Alismatacea, Butomacea
  • Circinotropus - The long funicle covers the ovule so that the nucellus and the axis lie in the straight line and the microphyle points upwards. Example - Opuntia
  • Hemianatropous - Funicle is at a right angle to the body of the ovule. The microphyle and chalaza seem to be lying in a straight line. Example - Ranunculus
