Translucent materials, like greaseproof paper and frosted glass let some but not all light through. They scatter or diffuse the light. Most materials do not allow light through at all and these are called opaque.

This type of material is referred to as OPAQUE MATERIAL.

  • These things are formed of materials that do not allow light to flow fully through them, as with transparent materials, or even partially through them, as with transluscent materials.
  • When light reaches such opaque objects or materials, it is either absorbed by the object's constituent substance or bounced or reflected back to the observer. This characteristic property is called the opacity of the material.
  • Brick walls, wood, and other materials are examples of such materials.
  • Hence, materials from where no light transmission can occur are known as opaque objects.
