I believe in everlasting bonds between sisters.
I remember walking into the San Francisco hospital that one summer day. It was a Saturday, July third, and my dad had suddenly said my mom was about to give birth. This was where I met my youngest sister, Samantha.
She had the most beautiful eyes. They were bright blue, like the sparkling ocean during a sunny afternoon. When my mother placed her in my arms, I realized that I loved her from the moment I saw her.
As little kids, my sisters and I got along well. We would play with toys, dress up like princesses, or pretend we were sailors looking for treasure. But I would soon realize that I had already found my treasures–Emma, Natalie, and Samantha–the girls I will always know and call my sisters.
Over the years, we have grown, and things have changed. Our house is now full of chaos. Every fight is like a war, where everyone has to choose what side they’re on. Many times, I fight with them over stupid things–why she’s borrowing that shirt, who should feed the dog, why she won’t change the channel. No matter what, there is almost always something to fight about.
But even though our family has bad moments, there are also good moments–times when I realize that I love my sisters. I have defended them when someone has made them upset; I have saved them from getting in trouble. I don’t have to help them, yet I do. We all help each other, and this shows how important sisters really are.
Even the most insignificant events have helped me realize how much I should treasure family. How much I should treasure having three sisters. We are still kids, living together under the roof of our parents. We still argue; we still get angry. But there are always good times, times when we realize how lucky we truly are, and that our sisters are our greatest treasures.
I need my sisters. For the homework help, when I don’t understand a problem. For the advice I will need when I don’t know what to do about my crush, or when I don’t know what to get my mom for her birthday. For the laughs and the good times that we will have just because we are sisters. For the clothes I will borrow, since we are the same size. For the way that they understand me better than anyone, better than my best friend. I know that they need me too, and that’s what will always keep us going. The bonds that we share, as sisters, will always keep us going, and no matter where we go and what we do, we will always be together. The shared blood that runs through their veins brings sisters together, but my sisters and I are also bound by our close relationship. No matter how far apart, we will always be together. Because that’s what sisters do–they always stick together.
