He was given an increment of 20%

Let his precious salary was x

After increment his salary becomes = x + 20% of x

= x + 20x/100 = (100x + 20x) / 100

= 120x/100

We have been given salary after increment = 15300

120x/100 = 15300

120x = 1530000

x = 153000/12

x = 12750

Before increment his salary was 12750

STEP 1: Find the percentage after increment:

100 + 20 = 120%

.

STEP 2: Form the equation:

Percentage after increment = 120%

Salary after increment = ₹15300

120% = ₹15300

.

STEP 3 Find 1%:

120% = ₹15300

1% = 15300 ÷ 120

1% = ₹127.50

.

STEP 4 : Find 100% (before increment):

1% = ₹127.50

100% = 127.50 x 100 = ₹12750

.

Answer: The salary before increment is ₹12750
